Other than the video, I haven’t written anything in the aftermath of last week. Honestly, I don’t want to add to the current conversations which are a rash-inducing combination of horseshit positivity and a circular firing squad of blame. Everyone has got a hot take and if it’s in direct conflict with your hot take, you could find yourselves at the throats of people who would normally be allies, which isn’t good for any of us. Conversely, I do want to strangle everyone out there telling us to “Touch grass,” or “Just keeping living.” Anyone saying to breathe gets an automatic block.
While I’m avoiding hot takes, I’m also trying to give everyone the grace to feel them. Everyone is trying to make sense of the unthinkable and accepting we live in a senseless world doesn’t do it for most. And while I may disagree with whatever their current pronouncements are, I recognize that it’s how they’re working through it, and disagreeing with them wouldn’t help anyone and probably just does more damage to both of our already fragile emotional states.
It's at times like these that I like to remind myself of a personal axiom: The easiest thing to do is to do nothing.
